Dreamcatchers, usually a handmade willow hoop, on which is woven a net or web, have a deep spiritual meaning for Indigenous peoples, particularly the Ojibwe tribe of North America who created them. Traditionally used as talismans to protect sleepers, especially children, they are believed to have the following purposes:
Protect from negative energy: Dreamcatchers are thought to have a protective charm that filters out negative energy, thoughts, and dreams, allowing only positive energy to pass through.
Represent interconnectedness: The web-like structure of the dreamcatcher is said to represent the interconnectedness of all living things.
Symbolic elements: Dream catchers often incorporate symbolic elements, such as feathers and beads, that contribute to their overall spiritual energy. For example, feathers may symbolize breath or air, which is essential for life, while beads may represent the web of life.
Trap bad dreams: According to legend, good dreams pass through the center hole of the dream catcher to the sleeping person, while bad dreams are trapped in the web and perish in the light of dawn.
